Foundation Announces Scholarships
The Parke County Community Foundation has announced the results of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholar Award selection process, as well as other Foundation scholarships for Parke County students. Riverton Parke High School senior Sheldan Falls has been awarded a 4-year full tuition scholarship to any accredited Indiana college or university. Several dozen other seniors, and over 70 other current college students from Parke County, will share more than $185,000 in additional awards.
Falls is the daughter of Greg and Jessica Falls of Mecca. She plans to attend Rose- Hulman Institute of Technology to pursue a degree in civil engineering. Sheldan is a member of the National Honor Society, is currently ranked second in her class, is the class treasurer, has been named All-Wabash River Conference in track, volleyball, and softball, and was a 4-year member of the Lady Panthers basketball program.
Of the award, Falls said, “It’s a big relief. This scholarship is going to make it possible for me to go to the school I have always dreamed about. I want to thank the Parke County Community Foundation and the Lilly Endowment; I will work very hard to live up to this.”
Falls added: “I want to thank my family and teachers for helping me prepare for college. They’ve played a huge role in any success I’ve had.”
In addition to tuition, the Lilly Community Scholarship includes an annual stipend of $900 to cover the cost of books and fees. The Lilly Endowment Community Scholar was selected from numerous applications submitted. The Foundation utilizes a scholarship selection sub-committee comprised of individuals not associated in any other capacity with the Foundation. Final selections for Lilly award winners are made by Independent Colleges of Indiana, a non-profit corporation that represents 31 regionally accredited degree-granting, non-profit, private colleges and universities in the state. ICI performs this final selection at the request of Lilly Endowment.
